The CRC provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice. Provides direct patient care through group and individual counseling in accordance with current treatment plan. This role involves clear, concise, and timely documentation, establishing helpful patient relationships while maintaining professional boundaries, and participating in patient rounds or teams per program guidelines. The CRC completes assigned patient care tasks, intervenes in managing complex patient situations, and remains awake and alert at all times while on the job, working effectively to manage the therapeutic milieu. Responsibilities include participating in leading and co-leading patient groups, providing and supervising community activities (which may include transporting patients), and providing patients with direction and supervision as needed. The CRC follows established program policies, procedures, and protocols. When functioning as charge counselor, the CRC assumes leadership by delegating duties and providing supervision. They communicate information regarding patient milieu/therapeutic environment to appropriate staff in a timely manner. The CRC supervises patients in taking medication as prescribed, follows all program and hospital-wide policies and procedures, and reports and documents missed doses to appropriate staff. They communicate observations related to medication side effects and desired effects to appropriate medical staff in a timely manner. The CRC supports nursing staff in assisting patients in acquiring skills to successfully self-medicate. They assist patients in their activities of daily living, identify patient strengths and deficits related to ADLs, and initiate and implement interventions to meet these needs. The CRC assesses sleep patterns, assists patients to develop more appropriate sleep cycles, and notifies the clinical team as necessary. They also assist patients in maintaining and keeping various appointments. A commitment to professional growth and competency is expected, including completing mandatory in-service requirements, identifying areas of strength and improvement with a supervisor, and maintaining competency for treating age-specific patient populations. The CRC uses supervision effectively to enhance professional growth and development and attends and participates in rounds and case conferences when appropriate.
