About The Position

A highly skilled and detail-oriented F/A-18 COM/NAV Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) is responsible for performing, inspecting, and verifying the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of communication and navigation systems on F/A-18 aircraft. This role ensures that all COM/NAV system work is completed in accordance with Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) standards and safety protocols.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Must be capable of operating support equipment
Five (5) years previous experience as an COMNAV Technician. (CDI Experience).
Must be capable of attaining Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) within required timeframe.
Working knowledge of the COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 Series.
Training to include NAMTRGD Navy AME “A” or factory equivalent ejection seat and environmental control system course of instruction.
Knowledge of naval maintenance publications, maintenance requirement cards
Ability to document maintenance utilizing the Naval Aviation Logistics Command Information System (NALCOMIS).
Ability lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
Normal color perception required.
A comprehensive background in maintenance practices.
Developed technical skills and experience relevant to their areas of responsibility.
Proficiency in researching, reading, and interpreting engineering drawings, technical manuals, and applicable directives.
Strong technical writing abilities, with an emphasis on clarity and accuracy.
An observant, alert, and inquisitive disposition.

Nice To Haves

Thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures, and replacement of components
Thorough knowledge of aircraft wiring systems.
Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tension meters, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots malfunctions in F/A18 airframe, weapons, and engine electrical systems of moderate difficulty at the organizational maintenance level.
Repairs, replaces, and rebuilds electrical system wiring, connectors, and components using hand tools, power tools, and applicable test equipment.
Reads and interprets manufacturers maintenance manuals service bulletins, technical data, engineering data and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing damaged wiring, malfunctioning or damaged components.
Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers manuals.
Determines functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
Provides technical support to Electrical/mechanical engineers and customers.
Makes entries in aircraft logs and records.
Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
