About The Position

This position involves performing welding and fabrication activities in accordance with project specifications and quality requirements. The Combo Welder will assist Pipefitters with the installation, repair, and modification of industrial piping systems, utilizing GTAW (TIG) and SMAW (Stick) welding processes in various positions (2G, 4G, and 6G). The role requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents, maintain safety compliance, and inspect completed work for quality standards. Selected candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, welding qualifications, drug testing, and site-specific requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years of industrial welding experience, or completion of a 2-year technical or vocational welding program.
  • Demonstrated industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience welding carbon steel pipe systems.
  • Ability to pass a Zachry welding test if not currently certified.
  • Knowledge of GTAW and SMAW welding processes.
  • Ability to weld 2" Schedule 160 and 4" Schedule 40 pipe.
  • Testing material will be carbon steel.
  • Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the position.
  • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and power tools.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, technical manuals, and welding procedures.
  • Ability to recognize welding defects and make necessary corrections.
  • Ability to detect faulty equipment, unsafe conditions, or defective materials and notify supervision promptly.
  • Ability to lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding.
  • Knowledge of weld fit-up, joint preparation, and fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to ignite torches, operate welding equipment, and safely perform cutting and welding activities.
  • Monitor fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, shrinkage, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  • Ability to operate welding-related hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Must meet site access requirements, including successful completion of any required background screening.

  • Perform welds in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions.
  • Successfully pass required Zachry welding qualifications or maintain current applicable Zachry welding certifications.
  • Read and interpret drawings, weld procedures, and technical documents.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety requirements and company policies.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
