Requirements

  • Journeyman operator level skill.
  • Ability to successfully complete the RREF Development Program for Combined Cycle Operators.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and correcting electrical, mechanical and I&C problems.
  • Fully competent in power station operations.
  • Well versed in the underlying theoretical applications of thermodynamics.
  • Complete understanding of power station water chemistry functions and applications (e.g., proper sampling, analysis, and related instrument calibrations).
  • Worked as a journeyman operator at either a combustion turbine (simple or combined cycle), coal, oil, nuclear or natural gas power station. (Solar, wind or hydro experience does not apply).
  • Possess military experience/technical school training (e.g., ancillary power operations), or, previous work experience equivalent to a journeyman skill that may be assessed at a Journeyman level.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Successful completion of the Power Plant Maintenance Selection System (MASS) Test at the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) level.
  • Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) Test.
  • Ability to work lawfully in the U.S. without employment-based immigration sponsorship, now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, and safely and efficiently operate, the generating units at the respective Power Station, to include HRSGs and all associated balance of plant equipment.
  • Achieve the minimal level of required operations skill tasks in the operation of the Power Station.
  • Perform duties in water chemistry.
  • Successfully complete the Regulated and Renewable Energy Florida (RREF) Development Program and progress to a CCO III level.
  • Demonstrate elements of a progression skill level of competence from selected journeyman tasks in electrical, instrumentation and controls (I&C), and mechanical fields (Operator Maintenance Qualification) within approximately 18 months.
  • Comply with all requirements under the training program, including training timelines and periodic performance assessments.
  • Be available for call-out responsibilities and work all hours as needed, day or night, weekends, or holidays, and in all weather conditions.
  • Travel and stay overnight to various locations and work/respond on short notice to support planned/unplanned/emergency site events.
