The Combine Operator's primary responsibility is to operate a series of machines that measure, cut, and label coiled or straight lengths of copper tubing from a large stock roll. The machines include the pan/payoff/basket, reactor arm, pre-straightener rollers, wipers, straighteners rollers, tester, metal stamp, link counter, ink stamper, saw or shear, exit rollers, blow off table, and discharge rack. The coils and straight lengths range in diameter from 1/4” to 7/8” and the length ranges from 10’ to 20’. The Operator averages completing 12 basket rolls of stock per shift. 70 to 80 percent of the finished products are straight lengths. The operator will operate push button, turn key, touch screen controls and adjustment knobs to engage and disengage the automatic # 8 Combine series of machines. The operator will check completed pieces for quality including label or stamp location, straightness, and diameter of wall width. Completed pieces weigh up to seven pounds. The operator will use a hand saw or electric saw to cut off the end of the stock roll. Then, pull the end of the stock roll out of the basket and lead into rollers, through the saw/shear area, and then through the exit rollers. The operator will open the door to the saw/shear area and remove jammed or lodged pieces of copper tubing from the machine. Opening the door requires up to 15 pounds of force. Moving the saw requires 25 pounds of force. The operator will document hourly production with paper and pencil. The operator will change out the saw attachment to sheer attachment and back approximately one to three times per week. This requires the use of an overhead crane to lift the saw or sheer attachment and Allen wrenches to loosen and tighten bolts. The operator will place rolls of barcodes in the machine and replace wipers.
