About The Position

Under the oversight of the Plant Supervisor , the Combination Services Technician performs functions that align with the Data Services Tech. This includes install ation and maintenance of telecommunications services , cabling, customer premise equipment (CPE), field equipment and terminals . R esponsib ilities extend to troubleshooting , isolating , and performing the necessary repairs on defective equipment in the network. Perform i nstall ation an d assist with maint enance functions. Information Technology ( IT ) services, battery testing , carrier systems , and assisting with non-regulated equipment. Responsible for locating underground cable plant s and utilities in a timely manner . Coordinat es with other departments on service installations and updat es changes for company records ( billing, facility , etc. ) . Documenting and completing project related forms on a ll installation s and repair services rendered . Monitor s alarm systems to maintain equipment , and communicate updates, changes or problems to key contacts and impacted customers . This role participates in a scheduled on-call rotation / emergency response during evenings and weekend hours . R emaining in the coverage area and being available to respond and perform work outside of normal business hours is while on call . Work-related travel is expected in this position as necessary. Differentiated from the Data Service Technician role, the Combination Services Technician provision s equipment for service orders and troubleshoots subscriber systems. Performing advanced troubleshooting and administering repairs on a variety of components (switching / transmission / alarm network equipment, wireless systems, standby generators, fiber equipment, voice frequency repeaters, loop extenders, and cable loading systems ) . This role also coordinates the servicing of remote building repairs ( e lectric al , p lumbing, HVAC , and building/site maintenance services ) .

Requirements

Successful completion of a High School diploma program or GED curriculum / exam (12 th grade equivalent) or any other state recognized secondary education program.
A minimum of 5 years of work experience performing telecommunications data services related functions.
A valid, state - issued, and insurable driver’s license .
NOTE: Some areas may require pole and tower climbing certificates which will be outlined during offer of position .
Firm working knowledge of basic networking concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use them in varied situations.
An advanced capability and skill with observing and assessing a situation and determining how to respond in a prompt and professional manner. Applies highly proficient and specialized skills that allow employees to function in situations that are varied, complex, and/or non-routine . Must be able to see patterns and trends and draw conclusions from observations across various situations .

Responsibilities

Install and T ransfer S ervice s : Perform s installation of new services for voice, data, special circuits, ethernet, as well as other non-regulated services Range offers . Review staking sheets or maps to install services designed by Network Engineer . Perform work with the appropriate tools / hardware to meet applicable codes and safety requirements.
I nstallation and maintenance : Services: Voice, b roadband, special circuits, ethernet , and othe r customer premise services provided by Range . Cabling: I nstall , repair and maintain copper or fiber cables in an aerial or buried application and terminate cables using industry standard s . Install subscriber carrier systems , including digital, analog, and next generation carrier systems. Ability to work aloft . Network interface devices. Install DC power plant and associate cabling systems . Install batteries and / or battery banks in d ata c enters, communications huts and remote cabinets . Network devices: Modems, routers, and wireless devices. May be asked to assist M anaged S ervices with site surveys , installation, and trouble repairs .
Repair and Maintain equipment : P er form repairs on defective buried cables and may excavate existing copper or fiber cables, as required, to repair damaged or aging facilities. A ssigned to locate / mark telecommunication facilities in the area and set up safety precautions in preparation for digging. Perform repairs on aerial cable with the use of ladders or bucket truck s and set up safety precautions as needed. Coordinate with other technical personnel to diagnos e or identify and locate defective equipment. Must be able to read and interpret cable schematics . Required to make repairs or work with other personnel to ensure repairs have been made and network stability is restored . Perform repairs in access /transport carrier systems and other department related equipment utilizing specialized test equipment . Utilize copper and fiber testing equipment to analyze and identify areas needing upgrades or repairs. Battery testing and maintenance in data centers, communication shelters and remote carrier systems Perform basic building maintenance and repairs to include HVAC systems and generators . Coordinate repairs with a professional contractor if the extent of repair s is beyond the technical ability for the position .
Data Center Equipment assignments include but are not limited to: Installation, repair, and maintenance of: Switching / fiber / transmission and transport / alarm network / broadband equipment . Ethernet and special circuits . Standby generators . Voice frequency repeaters, and loop extenders . Power board (DC) and cable loading systems in compliance with Company standard s . Data Center / n etwork environment s tandards d ocumentation .
Locates underground cable plant and utilities in support of construction activities , rebuilds and existing upgrades. Marks located utilities according to set standards. Responsible for interpreting system maps (paper and electronic) to accurately locate underground facilities. Assists in correcting system mapping information when discrepancies are discovered while performing locates by reporting the finds to supervisor and/or Engineering .
Professionally communicate with customers , suppliers, manufacturers , and technical support to further determine problems and acceptable resolutions.
Paperwork and records: Professionally complete all installation and repair-related forms and reports. File and submit w ithin assigned timeframes . Communicate with other departments on service installations/repairs and advise on necessary updates for billing, facility records, and other company files.
Install wireless equipment including point - to - point wireless systems, wireless access points, security cameras, and wiring for any additional associated equipment.
Monitor alarm systems to maintain equipment and communicate problems that affect company operations / services and the impact of customers.
Meeting and maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations across all areas of this role’s functions are an expectation and key objective . Must follow all company safety policies / procedures and always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE ) .
