About The Position

This role is responsible for safely and economically producing quality artificial granules for SGI customers. The Coloring Supervisor will act as a role model for safety, drive a continuous improvement culture within their work group, and lead, manage, and develop the skills of employees. This position involves managing costs to the lowest possible level while meeting production quantity and quality targets on time, leading special projects related to coloring and employees, and building/coaching cross-functional teams for continuous improvement. The role also includes implementing Lean Manufacturing and/or other Continuous Improvement and problem-solving techniques.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Graduate/GED Equivalent.
  • Minimum (1-2) years supervisory experience in a mining/manufacturing operation.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems in a mining/manufacturing operation.
  • Strong safety and housekeeping orientation and knowledge of MSHA rules and regulations.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead employees and a desire and willingness to drive change in improving operations.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or other Continuous Improvement and problem-solving techniques.
  • Root Cause Analysis experience or other problem-solving technique.
  • Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) Planning, Raw Materials management, and Constraint Management knowledge.
  • Good decision making skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Proficient Computer skills – Microsoft Office Outlook/Excel/Word.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without need for employer-sponsored visa (work permit).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety, quality, production, and housekeeping standards are met at all times.
  • Acquire and demonstrate thorough knowledge of MSHA standards.
  • Conduct contractor safety inspections per SGI policy.
  • Clearly understand and execute the Emergency Management Plan if needed.
  • Lead/influence/manage people.
  • Lead and manage assigned production personnel to safely meet/exceed all manufacturing goals.
  • Develop and improve assigned production personnel skills in preparation for future career opportunities.
  • Embrace change and champion change positively to direct reports.
  • Participate positively on teams.
  • Know and understand all product specifications.
  • Clearly understand the process and equipment locations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify and correct the root causes of events.
  • Accurately and timely prepare required reports and maintain accurate data and other records as required.
  • Schedule/plan manpower and production schedules.
  • Effectively communicate maintenance needs with maintenance supervisors, maintenance manager, production supervisors, and operations manager.
  • Notify management of downtime with a clear/detailed explanation of issues.
  • Write clearly defined work orders and develop SOPs for the department.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings using Lean Manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, and problem-solving techniques.
