About The Position

The Color Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for receiving and processing samples for color testing, building and adapting test equipment, performing tests using general laboratory equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness of the work area and equipment. This role involves operating computer terminals for data entry and retrieval, following defined test plans, evaluating test performance and sample operation, and recording and explaining test results. The assistant will also prepare charts, graphs, and reports, examine test samples, read measuring instruments, and review test data with a supervisor. Additionally, the role requires interpreting blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions, examining customer samples, learning to operate basic tests, and communicating with customers during setup and operation. The assistant will operate designated laboratory equipment and tools, receive instructions from and report data to engineers and other laboratory technicians, and record observed or calculated data. Developing a working knowledge of the job, methods, instrumentation, and systems, integrating continuous improvement concepts, and adhering to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and security practices are also key aspects of this position. Other duties as directed will be performed.

Requirements

  • Must score 16 or better (superior discrimination) on Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test
  • Higher Secondary Education
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.
  • Must be able to lift/move boxes of product weighing 25 pounds or less

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process samples for color testing process.
  • Builds and/or adapts basic setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
  • Performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
  • Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
  • Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
  • As directed follows defined test plans and datasheets.
  • Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
  • Records and explains test results.
  • Prepares charts, graphs and reports to explain test results.
  • Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
  • As instructed examines customer samples and learns to operate basic tests for each case.
  • Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
  • Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory technician staff.
  • Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.
  • Develops working knowledge of the job, methods, instrumentation and systems.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
