About The Position

This role is responsible for learning and performing various tasks within the color lab, focusing on material management and color matching. The trainee will be accountable for adhering to safety, GMP, and plant policies, conducting audits, and maintaining various logbooks and databases. The position involves assisting with color setup in software, testing new raw materials, working with vendors, troubleshooting color issues, and collaborating with other departments and facilities to meet color needs. The trainee will also support improvement initiatives and perform other assigned duties.

  • Working knowledge of different resin types used in colors.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all applicable Safety, GMP, Food Safety, and Plant Policies.
  • Complete a minimum of 1 Observation and 1 Near miss audits per month.
  • Observe all Safety precautions, GMP’s and Plant rules to prevent injury, material loss, or equipment damage.
  • Learn directing, training, cross training, motivating and evaluating staff.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating logbooks for requests, reformulations, Lab/BL#, color matches, and reformulations.
  • Maintain and update card file with new J#s.
  • Maintain color chip files and supply Quality with standard chips as needed.
  • Assist in setting up new colors and raw materials in Data Color software.
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheet database with new color info.
  • Maintain and update Pricing sheets for customers at other Berry locations.
  • Maintain and update FDA letters of compliance for customers.
  • Maintain and update Technical Data sheet information.
  • Test new raw materials due to obsolete raw materials.
  • Work with pigment vendors on bringing in and finding replacement raw materials.
  • Maintain and update the price quote calculator with current raw material prices.
  • Troubleshoot problem colors by adjusting formulations.
  • Work on projects with special teams (e.g., PCRs, special effects colors).
  • Work with multiple teams to resolve color issues.
  • Check pigments and concentrates and correct them before they go to production.
  • Participate in weekly safety meetings and maintain a log of topics and attendance.
  • Work as backup to multiple other positions for vacations and time off.
  • Perform melt tests as needed.
  • Communicate and work with other departments on their color concerns.
  • Work with other Amcor facilities to satisfy their color needs.
  • Develop dispositions for all color concerns.
  • Promote and enforce a clean and organized work environment guided by the 5s principle.
  • Understand problem solving and escalation process.
  • Lead and participate in improvements and initiatives.
  • Support ongoing improvement activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned.
