About The Position

The Color Guard Instructor is responsible for attending and actively participating in all rehearsals, performances, competitions, and related activities. This position works collaboratively with the Band Director to develop and implement choreography, instructional strategies, and rehearsal plans to support student growth and excellence in performance. Responsibilities include teaching routines and performance techniques, leading daily instructional activities, coordinating performance schedules, and fostering a positive, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment. The instructor also serves as a representative of the program by developing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Previous Color Guard coaching experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • English fluency will be determined through the interview process and licensure.
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Valid ACEP (American Coaching Effectiveness Program) Certification/CHSAA (Colorado High School Activities Association) Certification.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to change.
  • Possesses computer and technology skills.
  • Effectively works with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaborates well with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions.
  • Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively with the School District community.
  • Skilled in analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information.
  • Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities.
  • Maintains confidentiality.

  • Complies with all District policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to federal and state laws, regulations, and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment that promotes teamwork, leadership, responsibility, and student achievement within the color guard program.
  • Plan and implement engaging rehearsals that develop performance skills, creativity, confidence, and technical proficiency in color guard techniques and choreography.
  • Collaborate with band directors, instructional staff, and specialists to support student growth and ensure alignment with overall program goals and performance expectations.
  • Provide differentiated instruction and individualized support to meet the needs of all performers, including advanced and developing students.
  • Promote an environment that respects each student's dignity and is perceived as fair, consistent, and supportive.
  • Organize rehearsals, performances, travel logistics, equipment management, and related program responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
  • Motivate, engage, and empower students to take ownership of their individual and team performance goals.
  • Provide constructive, specific, corrective, and timely feedback to support continuous improvement and high-level performance.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and stakeholders regarding schedules, expectations, performances, and student progress.
  • Utilize technology and communication platforms, including websites, social media, and digital tools, to support program communication and engagement.
  • Establish positive rapport with students, staff, parents, and community members to encourage collaboration and proactive problem-solving.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, rehearsals, performances, competitions, clinics, and professional development opportunities.
  • Apply and implement current instructional strategies, performance techniques, and safety practices to enhance the color guard program's success.
  • Advocate for and lead initiatives that support student growth, school spirit, performance excellence, and program development.
  • Follow professional standards, district policies, and the Code of Ethics to guide responsible and ethical decision-making.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Possible supervision of support personnel.
  • Conduct supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Create and implement effective, efficient process-management strategies (e.g., procedures, instructional groups, transition materials, and supplies).
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
  • Review processes for opportunities for improvement and make changes as needed to ensure instructional quality.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $27.19 - $29.25 per hour, based on negotiated agreement and prior related experience.
