About The Position

The Color Compounding Colorist is responsible for matching custom colors for potential new business needs and for color master batch production in accordance with schedule demands. The role ensures the quality and production meet customer satisfaction. This position supports the Extrusion department by accurately and timely manufacturing concentrate, and performs quality assurance on color concentrate (SPD) upon receiving new lots. The Colorist develops custom color products, including managing receipt, submittal, and approval. They interpret Color Spectrophotometer results for color adjustments, create and adjust color matching formulations, and oversee production and lab quality control, including operator training. Problem-solving using WCM methodology, and development and maintenance of formulations are key responsibilities. The role also involves managing lab sampling procedures (documentation, organization, communication, inspection, testing), assisting with special projects and Root Cause Analysis, and potentially filling in for technical coordinator and operator positions. The Colorist may also act as a fill-in for the Color Compounding Leader during their absence. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Ability to assist in a flexible schedule when necessary, including a 24-hour on-call schedule.
  • Ability to deal with the Extrusion department in meeting their demands as an internal customer.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve any manufacturing, quality, or customer problem when necessary.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, production blend orders, color plaque formulas, Extrusion schedule, color graphs, and instructions from supervisor.
  • Ability to write production and post blend orders, as well as cost sheets.
  • Ability to communicate with departmental and interdepartmental operators, supervisors, and plant management.
  • Ability to perform intermediate addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division functions.
  • Ability to accurately enter data in SAP.
  • Ability to effectively work with Color Spectrophotometer.
  • Lift Truck License.

  • Performing other duties as instructed by Supervisor.
