About The Position

The role as a Collision Repair Technician is to complete repairs properly and efficiently in order to have the vehicle ready for delivery on the promised due out date. Read the R/O and understand what is required. The Collision Repair Technician is required to perform skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of vehicles. He/she restores damaged vehicles to their original structural integrity, function, and appearance. He/she uses hand tools and power tools to remove or repair damaged parts, weld as needed, and properly install new parts. The Collision Repair Technician works with a variety of metals and plastics, as well as glass, electrical, and mechanical parts. Damaged vehicles must be repaired correctly following manufacturers procedures so they will perform as designed, especially in subsequent collisions. The Collision Repair Technician will effectively collaborate with the estimator, repair planner and refinish technician to achieve efficient vehicle flow.

Requirements

  • High school or college automotive body repair diploma
  • Body Technician license
  • Possess a valid drivers' license
  • Proven abilities in automotive body repairs
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5-7 years of experience as a Body Shop Technician preferred

Responsibilities

  • Execute all activities you are responsible for on the R/O - Ensure to notify the Production Manager of any additional damage that does not appear on the R/O.
  • Fill out & sign the QC checklist and clean vehicle before moving the vehicle to the next department.
  • Use repair products as described by manufacturer (refer to supplier reps, and other available resources)
  • Manage work assignments to achieve targets set out by the Production Manager.
  • Repair and replace body components, frame and underbody components as per manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Scan vehicles to determine any codes related to the accident. Record all data in BMS (Business Management System).
  • Work out dents and other defects using pulling tools, blocks and hammers.
  • Operate welding & soldering equipment as described by manufacturer and perform destructive tests prior to working on the vehicle.
  • Use plastic filler as per manufacturer to fill dents and smooth out defects.
  • Remove and install or replace parts using hand & air tools and cutting tools & torch (as required).
  • Straighten bent structures using frame and underbody pulling and anchoring equipment.
  • File, grind and sand repaired body surfaces using hand and power tools.
  • Cover exterior and interior to protect surfaces not worked on.
  • Perform a final scan to determine all systems are working properly.
  • Complete calibrations and re-calibrations to ensure all systems are working as designed.
  • Inspect repaired vehicles and test drive vehicles for proper handling and wind noise.
  • Monitor parts usage and report on any materials issues.
  • Assist in ordering replacement equipment, parts and supplies.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Other related tasks as required.
