About The Position

The College Success Department offers courses that support students entering college and help them fulfill an Everett Community College graduation requirement. The curriculum focuses on study skills, academic reading, and college success. Examples of courses taught include: COLL 100: Study Skills for Acad Recovery, COLL 101: College Success, COLL 102: Academic Reading Skills, COLL 105: Study Skills for Coll Success.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, developmental education, or a related field.
  • College-level teaching experience with an emphasis on active learning strategies.
  • Knowledge of academic planning, time management, goal setting, study skills, and educational pathways.
  • Knowledge of diverse learning styles, motivational strategies, and goal-achievement practices.
  • Ability to guide students through a fast-paced, modular course using a shared curriculum; design clear instructions; and adapt materials to students’ needs.
  • Skilled in using rubrics to evaluate qualitative assignments, provide constructive feedback, and support student reflection and revision.
  • Ability to engage students respectfully across modalities, respond to questions within stated timelines, and hold virtual or in-person office hours effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize student growth, accommodate diverse needs and formats, and support students in connecting coursework to personal goals.
  • Ability to help students develop analytical thinking as they evaluate resources, construct academic plans, and reflect on their learning journey.
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning environment, support diverse perspectives, and foster respectful peer interaction.
  • Ability to respond to student circumstances with appropriate flexibility and guidance while upholding course expectations.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching students with varied backgrounds, levels of academic preparation, and learning needs.
  • Experience using learning management systems such as Canvas, video conferencing tools, digital communication tools, and accessible assignment formats.
  • Knowledge of campus resources such as advising, tutoring, financial aid, library services, student rights and responsibilities, and equity-based support systems.
  • Knowledge of financial aid options and strategies for covering college costs.
  • Experience adapting course due dates and expectations to student needs and clearly communicating adjustments.

Responsibilities

  • Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population.
  • Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules.
  • Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course’s stated learning outcomes.
  • Develop a current course syllabus using the College’s inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter.
  • At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps.
  • Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College’s scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline.
  • Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students.
  • Complete annual trainings as required by state and federal law. Associate Faculty will be compensated for trainings required by the College independent of compensation received for their quarterly workload assignment.
  • Read and respond to College communications (phone, email, etc.) in a timely manner.
  • Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member’s assignment.
  • By mutual agreement, compensation may be available for participation in opening week activities, meetings and professional development opportunities, faculty forums, annual commencement ceremony in June, service on committees, and department, division and College meetings and be involved in department, division and college matters.
  • The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members. Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties.
