Requirements

  • BA/BS in related field strongly preferred or relevant experience would be considered
  • 2 - 4 years of experience in college access, secondary education or an educational non-profit
  • Direct experience delivering educational programs for teens; experience in out-of-school-time settings preferred.
  • Knowledge of trends in education, college admissions, financial aid and scholarship processes
  • Ability to track and analyze student progress using data management systems
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts.
  • Knowledge of barriers faced by low income, first generation, college bound students
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt strategies to meet diverse student needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database management tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships with students, families, and community partners.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide early college awareness activities and facilitate transition workshops to prepare youth for post-secondary success.
  • Deliver personalized support throughout the college application process, ensuring youth receive best-fit acceptances aligned with their goals.
  • Guide students and families through the financial aid process, including FAFSA and CSS Profile, to secure financial packages that support college attendance and completion.
  • Assist high school seniors in identifying, applying for, and securing scholarships by guiding eligibility, application processes, and deadlines.
  • Manage all graduating seniors’ college application and financial aid processes, ensuring all materials are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Build strong, individualized relationships with a diverse caseload of at least 50% of high school youth and their families to support academic growth and post-secondary planning.
  • Conduct a minimum of three annual advising sessions with high school seniors and at least one session per year with pre-teens to support academic and post-secondary readiness.
  • Offer timely, proactive interventions to address pre-teens and teens’ academic and social-emotional needs.
  • Co-lead the design and implementation of college access programming, including College Club, Counselors-In-Training, College Week, Massachusetts & New England College Tour, and HBCU Tour.
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops, college fairs, and parent engagement sessions related to post-secondary planning.
  • Support youth transitions from middle school to high school and from high school to college through structured programming and individualized advising.
  • Work closely with teen education staff to align academic supports and strategies that promote member success.
  • Coordinate and schedule academic volunteers and tutors in collaboration with the MHK Volunteer Manager to ensure effective subject-specific support.
  • Prepare for and participate in tours and visits from key stakeholders and donors, providing insight into college preparation programming.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with target colleges, universities, and funding partners to expand opportunities for youth.
  • Utilize databases and data-tracking tools to monitor student progress and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain structured feedback loops to ensure program transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Complete annual learning and development goals as listed in the department standards.
  • Maintain National College Attainment Network membership and complete training as assigned by the Director of Academic Success.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Success to support the mission and goals of the organization.
