About The Position

Solano County's Department of Resource Management is hiring College Interns! The Department of Resource Management is a comprehensive agency comprised of the Public Works, Building and Safety, Planning Services, Environmental Health Services, Parks, and Administrative Services Divisions. The department provides for the well-being of Solano County's present and future residents and the public at-large through administration and enforcement of Federal, State, and Local laws and policies pertaining to transportation, building construction, land use planning environmental health, and recreation. The Public Works-Engineering & Surveying Division is committed to providing a safe, well maintained and efficient roadway system. Additionally the division designs and performs contract construction of road and bridge improvements, issues multiple permits, and performs traffic counts and speed surveys on County roads. College Intern positions offer college students practical work experience through projects, which are related to the student’s field of study. College Students employed in this class may be assigned to various County departments. This recruitment will be used to fill all current and future positions. The Salary range is from $17.50 - $23.25 depending on College Units completed. Lower Level - completion of 0 to 59 semester units (0 to 89-quarter units) $17.50. Upper Level - completion of at least 60 semester units (90-quarter units). $20.00. Graduate Level - Actively enrolled in a Master’s Degree Program. $23.25. This recruitment is intended to fill College Interns (Extra-Help) positions. Extra-help employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked may be part-time or full-time, but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year. Note: All CalPERS retirees applying for Extra Help positions must meet CalPERS post retirement employment requirements. Work must be performed for a limited duration and retiree annuitant may not work more than 960 hours per fiscal year. Current opportunities are available in Resource Management: The Accounting College Intern will support multiple Accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Accounting, Journals for accounting entries, reconciliations, reviewing financial data, preparing documentation, and assisting with workflow improvements. Interns will gain hands-on experience with accounting processes and work closely with experienced staff who provide guidance and mentorship. The Engineering College Intern will gain hands-on experience supporting civil engineering projects within Solano County. Interns will assist Design & Traffic Engineers with AutoCAD and Civil 3D plans, traffic studies, and data analysis. Interns may also assist with engineering calculations, project research, and plan reviews. They will review applicable engineering standards, including the CA MUTCD, AASHTO standards, and the Caltrans Highway Design Manual. This position provides an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world transportation projects and gain experience in civil engineering design and traffic engineering.

Requirements

• Current enrollment in an accredited college or university.
• Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university must be provided.

• Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License may be required.
