About The Position

The City of Hamilton is an EEO & AAE. Minorities and women are encouraged to apply. This position involves intern-level health department work for the community healthy living initiative program focused on improving the health of Hamilton residents through education, promotion of healthy behaviors and increased physical exercise. The Intern will have the opportunity to be involved in various community outreach projects within this program. The Intern will work with health and other city department personnel as well as various community partners to promote healthy eating habits, improve community wellness, and increase physical activity.

Requirements

Must be willing to learn, to accept instructions and directions and to follow through by using learned knowledge.
Must be courteous with the public and with other employees.
Must adhere to established hours of work and guidelines for attendance, reporting of absences, or other office routines.
Ability to work after normal working hours
This person should be registered in a program of cooperative education.
That program must have a logical relationship to the particular work tasks of the assignment.
The ability to work twenty-four (24) hours a week for six (6) weeks.

Possession of a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

Conduct Community Outreach: Partner with local organizations to promote awareness regarding healthy living topics such as proper nutrition, the benefits of regular physical activity and healthy behavior choices.
Create Resources: Develop educational materials and online content related to nutrition, physical activity and the benefits of healthy living behaviors.
Collecting Feedback and Data: Assessment of the nutritional needs and healthy living behaviors of the community through surveys and work to identify barriers to physical exercise within the community.
Evaluate Programs: Measure the effectiveness of nutrition education, healthy living behaviors and physical activity initiatives and suggest improvements.
May respond to telephone inquiries and provide information; may handle routine clerical functions for the work unit.
May gather, compile or display information.
May be assigned to a research or information-gathering task.
Assists a supervisor on varied tasks of a more advanced nature.
In technical fields, may be assigned to a particular project with responsibility for many steps within the project.
May perform diverse, clerical tasks and/or data entry.
Operates office equipment such as a printer, calculator, or equipment specific to that department.
Performs related work as required
