About The Position

Salt River Project (SRP), the nation’s third largest public power electric utility and central Arizona’s largest raw water supplier is seeking a current college junior or senior to join our Federal Affairs team as a Spring intern in SRP’s Washington, D.C. office. The Federal Affairs team represents SRP before the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, Federal agencies, White House, as well as various electric utility and water focused trade associations and coalitions. Federal Affairs advocates on a wide array of public policy issues important to SRP, its customers, and shareholders. The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department’s needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 40 hours per week maximum. This role is located in our Washington, D.C. office.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in at least junior or senior year of undergraduate studies
  • The internship is also open to graduate and law school students
  • SRP requires its college interns to be enrolled a minimum of 6 hours each semester
  • Cumulative GPA is 3.0 or above
  • Interest in learning about energy and water-related issues and their corresponding policy challenges and solutions
  • Highly motivated and results oriented with a desire to exceed expectations
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Attention to detail and a quick learner
  • Ability to work independently at an in-office setting
  • Familiarity with MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Photoshop training is a plus
  • College level coursework (100+) related to the position from an accredited institution is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Congressional hearings and report out your key takeaways
  • Research Federal legislation and produce written summaries and reports
  • Monitor media stories
  • Attend events with the Federal Affairs team
  • Assist with event planning and support
  • Assist with administrative support and other office duties
