College Intern - Distribution Planning Engineer

About The Position

SRP is looking to hire College Interns, pursuing engineering degrees. This internship offers valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the power utility industry, with a focus on the Distribution Planning team. This team is responsible for planning and maintaining SRP’s power distribution system to ensure the infrastructure meets the needs of a growing and evolving customer base in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner. The student intern will work daily scheduled hours based on the department’s needs, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours and up to 40 hours per week maximum.

  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • College level coursework (100+) related to the position from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • College level coursework (100 or higher) from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Management will evaluate college-level coursework individually to determine if it is applicable to the position and relevant to the required skills.
  • Knowledge such as accounting, general administrative principles, communications, marketing, personnel, finance, training, business and other non-scientific fields.
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Currently, SRP does not sponsor H1B visas, OPT, or other employment-related visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Power BI, Python, or planning tools and software, are not required but nice to have.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers with analyzing distribution interconnection requests and studies.
  • Monitor and analyze trends, municipal changes, and other activities affecting our distribution service territory.
  • Support research, data collection, and analysis related to distribution planning studies.
  • Participate in forecasting and demand planning activities.
  • Help prepare reports and presentations for leadership review.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and documentation.
  • Attend team meetings and gain exposure to strategic planning discussions.
