About The Position

Marymount School of New York seeks a seasoned college counselor to serve as a leave replacement during the second semester. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in college counseling and a strategic, organized, and student-centered approach to guiding students and their families through the college process. The college counselor will assume responsibility for an established caseload of students, honoring each student's unique strengths and aspirations and providing personalized strategic guidance throughout a complex and highly individualized process. The successful candidate brings a calm, thoughtful presence while providing support to students, families, and colleagues. In this role, it is essential to build trusting relationships through meticulous attention to detail and proactive, professional, and responsive communication. College counselors at Marymount work as a close-knit, highly collaborative team, partnering with one another to provide exceptional guidance and support throughout every stage of the college process. This position reports to the Co-Director of College Counseling and works closely with the Associate Director of College Counseling, as well as faculty and administrators, to foster a thoughtful and student-centered college counseling program.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required
College counseling experience required
Demonstrated success counseling students through selective college admissions processes.
Deep knowledge of U.S. colleges and universities, including highly selective institutions, liberal arts colleges, and public universities
Comfort with digital college counseling platforms (Scoir, College Kickstart, Common Application, UCAS)
Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and high ethical standards, while guiding students and families with expertise and confidence
Exceptional writing, editing, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
Commitment to fostering a community in which every student feels known, supported, and empowered to pursue ambitious goals.

Nice To Haves

Master’s and/or counseling degree preferred
Experience in an independent secondary school strongly preferred
Familiarity with international universities and UCAS is a plus.

Responsibilities

Managing a caseload of approximately 20-25 juniors and seniors.
Providing strategic guidance about the college search and application process in a way that is consistent with the school’s mission, culture, and academic program, including college list development, standardized testing plans, application timelines, essay brainstorming and feedback, interview preparation, and admissions decision-making.
Developing trusted partnerships with students and parents through proactive communication, thoughtful guidance, and timely responsiveness.
Teaching and helping to plan the second-semester college guidance curriculum for juniors, preparing students for each stage of the college search and application process.
Reviewing applications and supporting materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission, while helping students stay on track with deadlines and application requirements.
Assisting with the planning and implementation of programming for students and families, including information sessions, workshops, evening programs, and other educational events.
Maintaining accurate student records, application data, and office documentation with exceptional organization and attention to detail.
Supporting office operations through effective record-keeping, data management, scheduling, and other administrative responsibilities.
Maintaining expertise in trends and developments in college admissions, standardized testing, financial aid, and higher education to provide informed, strategic guidance.
Building collaborative relationships with faculty, advisors, administrators, and other members of the school community to support students' academic and personal growth.
Participating in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and community programs as an engaged member of the Marymount faculty.
Performing other duties as assigned in support of the College Counseling Office and the broader mission and life of the school.
