About The Position

Hydro One is seeking a College Coop Student to join the Area Distribution Engineering Technician team in Owen Sound for a 4-month term in Fall 2026. This role offers a temporary, 4-month contract with a hiring salary range of $2,045.66 - $2,523.60 bi-weekly. Hydro One is Ontario's largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, with over 110 years of history. This co-op position provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience and a solid understanding of the Area Distribution Engineering Technician role, its functions within Hydro One Networks Inc., and exposure to various methods, procedures, processes, equipment, and programs used by the technical group.

Requirements

  • Students enrolled in the Electrical or Civil Engineering Tech Programs, minimum 1st year.
  • Daily reporting and attendance to the Area Office.
  • Candidates must have a valid and current G2 class driver’s license.
  • Students must be returning to full-time studies upon the completion of their work term (exceptions made for students requiring a work term to graduate).
  • If an international student, must have obtained a proper work permit and a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Engineering Investigations for new customer connections and upgrades.
  • Complete a Layout in accordance with current business practices and policies for forwarding to the Field Business Centre.
  • Prepare sketches and associated details for water, rail and pipeline crossings for use by others.
  • Meet with representatives of telephone, cable TV companies, other utilities and government agencies and obtain reaction to proposed joint use agreements.
  • Prepare and process billing authorization and permits, as necessary.
  • Carry out staking activities and prepare staking data.
  • Prepare and report job estimates including instruction order with activities, taking into consideration such variables as structures, spans, soil types, components, and work methods based on field observations and input from Supervisor.
  • Collect delinquent accounts and restoration of same upon payment of account.
  • Provide field data for engineering studies.
  • Carry out routine meter changes and readings.
  • Assisting with or completing on your own: Cable locates, new line staking, negotiating easements, design of new/upgraded services, voltage conversions, mapping, computer work, dealing with customer issues, and utilizing test equipment.
