About The Position

The primary goal of the College Connection Coach is to support dual credit and dual enrollment students at the high schools and career centers in the Columbus Service Area. This position will be a hybrid model that will be campus-based and high school-based and will include travel to high schools throughout the Columbus Service Area. The Coach will establish and build relationships with high school dual credit students to encourage and assist toward credential completion and potential enrollment at Ivy Tech Community College. The Coach will also work closely with the assigned high school(s) and Ivy Tech stakeholders on dual credit/dual enrollment, while identifying gaps in dual credit/dual enrollment offerings that must be available to lead to an Ivy Tech credential/conversion. They will connect and support stakeholders: school partners, students, parents, Ivy Tech faculty and staff. They will provide outstanding customer service and follow up for students, parents, teachers, counselors, school staff, and Ivy Tech staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and one to three years’ related work experience required.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and team building skills
  • Possesses the ability to be decisive, work autonomously, and provide leadership in a community college setting.
  • Comfortable collaborating with persons from various social, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
  • Adaptable to a variety of work environments within the school partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to manage complex partnerships and issues.
  • Knowledgeable of computer applications and familiarity with computerized records systems required (Excel, Google Drive, Banner, DualEnroll.com, Workday, Schedule Builder)
  • Exceptional organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Passion for seeing students succeed.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the Columbus Service Area.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout school and campus facilities for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds of recruiting materials, displays, or event supplies.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with College policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student personnel, management or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in teaching, counseling, advising, case management or Individual Academic Plan development preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience in educational programming serving diverse student populations (preferably secondary and/or postsecondary public institutions) preferred.
  • K-12 experience, preferably at the high school level.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to area high schools on a recurring, assigned schedule to support dual credit students, teachers, counselors, and other school staff in the dual credit registration process.
  • Advise dual credit and dual enrollment students regarding current Ivy Tech course grades and progress towards an Ivy Tech credential.
  • Meet with or correspond with students and/or parents interested in Ivy Tech dual credit or dual enrollment opportunities, including special initiatives (while abiding by FERPA guidelines).
  • Build relationships with dual credit students, teachers, counselors, and other school staff at area high schools and serve as a source of knowledge and representative for Ivy Tech.
  • Guide high school students and parents on course options, degree options, and the application and registration process for dual credit/enrollment classes.
  • Assist homeschool students and families with advising and registration support.
  • Utilize Degree Completion Tracker to audit students’ degree progress and develop academic plans to show students their trajectory to complete a credential through Ivy Tech.
  • Collaborate with high schools to plan and sequence appropriate dual credit offerings based on high school course offerings.
  • Maintain an understanding of the credentialing requirements to teach dual credit, and facilitate communication between the high schools and Ivy Tech program chairs/deans throughout the credentialing process for potential dual credit instructors.
  • Connect students with services available through the high school, college, or community, including college exploration, admissions processes, financial aid, and scholarship resources.
  • Maintain academic records in compliance with College and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Provide support to academic program chairs, deans, and dual credit instructors in navigating and completing tasks in DualEnroll.com (e.g., submitting course syllabi, processing registration issues, etc.)
  • Participate fully in all school activities targeted to students and parents logically associated with the college process, including freshman orientation, freshman student/parent nights, career days, FAFSA workshops for parents, and all other related programs.
  • Attend Ivy Tech campus programs, dual credit/enrollment events, and other programs relevant to the Coach's role.
  • Ability to stay current with Ivy Tech academic programs and resources, admission and registration processes, career and higher education trends, requirements and expectations of the Indiana Department of Education, Office of Career and Technical Education, and Commission for Higher Education.
  • Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
