About The Position

Breakthrough recognizes the value and need of high-quality advising services to students beyond high school graduation, with an emphasis on supporting students along bachelor’s degree completion pathways. In this model, we directly serve students through six years of their postsecondary journey, with a strong focus on college transition, early persistence, and continued progress toward degree completion and/or successful transfer. The overall goal of the program is to increase bachelor’s attainment rates and strengthen long-term postsecondary success among Breakthrough students. The CCSC is committed to the academic, career, and personal development of students as they navigate bachelor’s degree pathways, including community college-to-university transfer and direct enrollment at four-year institutions. This role carries a direct caseload of up to 75 students (primarily enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities), as well as direct supervision of an AmeriCorps member with a similar caseload. This role reports to the Director of the College & Career Success Team.

Requirements

  • Skillfully supports young adults in navigating the transition to and through postsecondary education by providing individualized guidance on institution and degree program fit, financial aid, registration and enrollment processes, degree progress, career exploration, and re-enrollment pathways.
  • Coordinates support systems and campus resources to help students persist, address barriers, and maintain continuous enrollment, including applying the CASVE model when relevant.
  • Effectively and compassionately guides, coaches, and advocates for young adults as they transition into adulthood and increase independence.
  • Builds trusting relationships that foster self-efficacy, accountability, decision-making, and resilience while supporting students in navigating personal, academic, financial, and life transitions.
  • Submits timely, accurate, and comprehensive case notes and program data while tracking and analyzing trends to inform student support strategies, improve program delivery, and ensure progress toward advising, persistence, and team goals.
  • Uses data to prioritize action, strengthen operational effectiveness, and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Works collaboratively with Breakthrough’s Student and Family Support Specialist and external partners to connect students and families to non-academic resources, including mental health, food, housing, transportation, and other support services.
  • Ensures referrals and follow-up processes are coordinated effectively to support student well-being and persistence.
  • Builds trusting relationships with caregivers and families by providing accessible communication, guidance, and resources that support student engagement and success.
  • Partners with families consistently to navigate academic, postsecondary, and institutional processes while strengthening family connection to programming and services.
  • Uses appropriate content knowledge and operational planning skills to design, coordinate, and facilitate programs and events that support postsecondary success.
  • Delivers engaging experiences for groups of varying sizes while ensuring programming aligns with intended outcomes, organizational priorities, and student developmental needs.
  • Meets young people where they are and responds in developmentally appropriate ways that support social-emotional growth, self-efficacy, and academic identity development.
  • Creates supportive environments that foster belonging, accountability, and student engagement across individual and group settings.
  • Works effectively within schools, postsecondary institutions, and community systems to support student success.
  • Builds and maintains productive working relationships with campus staff, counselors, administrators, and community partners to improve coordination, remove barriers, and strengthen program implementation while stewarding Breakthrough partnerships.
  • Includes coaching, providing effective and timely feedback, and delivering structured training and support to a direct AmeriCorps member.
  • The Program Coordinator actively supports the AmeriCorps member in setting priorities, building skills, meeting performance and program goals, and growing toward their professional and developmental aspirations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of up to 75 students, primarily enrolled in two-year and four-year colleges and universities, supporting their persistence, transfer (where applicable), and progress toward bachelor’s degree completion
  • Develop meaningful relationships with Breakthrough college students and recent high school graduates and their families via phone, text, social media, email, and individual/group meetings
  • Meet or exceed standards of service for student contact based on tiered support levels and accurately document all interactions in the Salesforce database
  • Travel to campuses around Central Texas and across the state (caseload dependent) to meet face-to-face with students and campus partners
  • Assist college students and recent graduates with enrollment, re-enrollment, transfer pathways, financial aid processes, and academic planning aligned to degree completion and career goals
  • Support students navigating institutional transitions, including transfer from community college to four-year universities and changes in major or career pathway
  • Connect students to wraparound services that support persistence and degree completion, including emergency aid, mental health counseling referrals, and other student support resources
  • Collect and analyze college persistence, transfer, and completion data to identify trends, barriers, and student support needs
  • Design and provide timely reports regarding program outputs, outcomes, and student progression toward bachelor’s attainment
  • Foster a healthy, collaborative culture within the College & Career Success team and across the organization
  • Participate in committees and workgroups to support team planning, organizational change efforts, and cross-functional initiatives
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate programs and events that support postsecondary success
  • Drive student success in alignment with Breakthrough’s mission of supporting students on their path to becoming first-generation college graduates and bachelor’s degree holders
