About The Position

The College & Career Counselor at Taunton High School will create and implement a comprehensive College & Career Readiness Program to support the district's goal of "postsecondary pursuits for all students." This role involves mentoring first-generation college students and guiding all students in developing future plans. The counselor will assist with postsecondary planning across various pathways including college, career, workforce, and military. Additionally, the counselor will support student-athletes and their families through the college athletic recruitment and admissions process, covering NCAA eligibility, college research, coach communication, application requirements, and transition planning. Collaboration with the school community, families, colleges, employers, and community organizations is key to developing, coordinating, delivering, and assessing programming that expands access to postsecondary opportunities and promotes student success.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in counseling or a related field.
  • Valid Massachusetts DESE Licensure as School Counselor, 5–12.
  • Familiarity with current federal, state, and district-required assessments and graduation requirements.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and relationship-building skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in college admissions or high school college counseling.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience leading student and family workshops, including college application support, financial aid, and postsecondary planning.
  • Experience supporting first-generation college students with college planning, admissions, financial aid, and postsecondary transition.
  • Knowledge of college, career, workforce, military, and other postsecondary pathways.
  • Demonstrated experience using college and postsecondary planning platforms and resources, including SchoolLinks, Common App, FAFSA, MAFSA, and QuestBridge.
  • Experience coordinating college fairs, college representative visits, and other postsecondary programming.
  • Experience building strong relationships with college admissions representatives.
