About The Position

AIMS College Prep High School is seeking a College & Career Success Teacher to support students across all Golden State Pathways Program (GSPP) pathways (Medical, Law, Business, and Graphic Design/Coding) in preparing for the SAT and AP exams, building the life and self-advocacy skills needed to succeed in college and career, and planning for college entrance, persistence, and graduation. This position works closely with Academic Counselors, the Director of Student Support Services, and the Head of School to deliver support for Advisory, SAT/AP Prep, Dual Enrollment and College Planning components of AIMS's GSPP Program of Study across grades 9–12, and directly advances GSPP Outcomes 1 (Integrated Program of Study), 2 (Postsecondary Credits), and 4 (Integrated Support Services).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; experience in school counseling, college advising, or a related student-support role.
  • Teaching credential required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with test preparation, college planning, or life-skills instruction.
  • Knowledge of A-G requirements, UC/CSU admissions, dual enrollment, and financial aid processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort using student data to inform practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with counselors, teachers, and outside partners (e.g., Peralta Community College District, Genesys Works).

Nice To Haves

  • Credential or certification in school counseling, or equivalent experience in college access/advising work
  • Experience with Naviance or similar college/career planning platforms.
  • Bilingual or multilingual, reflecting the languages spoken by AIMS families.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver SAT/AP test preparation instruction and study sessions aligned to the GSPP Program of Study.
  • Track student practice test performance and provide targeted, individualized preparation plans.
  • Coordinate SAT and AP testing registration information sessions and fee support for eligible students.
  • Lead Advisory sessions (grades 9–12) that build executive functioning, self-advocacy, study habits, and other life skills needed for success in college and career.
  • Design and facilitate workshops on topics such as time management, financial literacy, communication, and navigating college/workplace systems independently.
  • Partner with the SEL team to ensure life-skills programming is integrated with students' broader social-emotional support.
  • Guide students and families through the college search, application, and financial aid (FAFSA/CADAA) process.
  • Lead the College Planning course/seminar for 12th grade students, including workshops on A-G requirements, UC/CSU eligibility, and articulation with Peralta Community College District and other partners.
  • Support students enrolled in Dual Enrollment coursework by monitoring progress and connecting them with tutoring or academic support as needed.
  • Maintain contact with alumni to track postsecondary enrollment, persistence, and graduation outcomes, and document post-graduate plans through surveys and trackers.
  • Collaborate with Academic Counselors and the Chief Academic Officer and Director of Student Services to implement and refine the GSPP Action Plan's college-readiness action steps.
  • Maintain accurate student data on SAT and AP participation/scores, A-G completion, dual enrollment, and college enrollment/persistence for GSPP reporting (Appendix B).
  • Participate in ongoing GSPP check-in meetings and Best Practices Webinars (BPWs).
