About The Position

We are hiring a dynamic and dedicated College and Career Readiness Assistant to serve the Tohono O'odham Nation. Assistant will support Tribal K12 schools in fostering educational and career success by designing and facilitating college and career readiness programs, conducting research, providing administrative support, and leading or supporting community events and school programs. These roles require travel to, or residence in, the respective communities and offer a unique opportunity to work closely with students and community members in the Tohono O'odham Nation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Youth Development, or a related field.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating educational programs or workshops.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with K12 students of various ages.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with tribal communities and understanding of cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and adaptable approach.
  • Willingness to travel frequently or reside in tribal communities as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or youth development.
  • Familiarity with tribal cultures, histories, and contemporary issues.
  • Skills in program evaluation and data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of college and career readiness programs tailored to the needs of Tribal K12 students.
  • Create engaging workshops and activities that help to prepare students for post-secondary education and/or career opportunities.
  • Implement programs and activities that help students develop a growth mindset and build confidence.
  • Collaborate with the grant team, school staff, and community leaders to ensure programs are culturally relevant and effective.
  • Provide one-on-one and group tutoring sessions to support students' academic achievement.
  • Mentor students, offering guidance on academic, career, and personal development.
  • Track and assess student progress, adjusting support strategies as needed.
  • Lead or assist in the development and facilitation of cultural programs that celebrate and preserve Tribal heritage and traditions.
  • Organize events and activities that promote cultural awareness and pride among students.
  • Engage with community members to incorporate their knowledge and expertise into cultural programming.
  • Build strong relationships with students, families, and tribal community members.
  • Participate in community events and meetings to stay connected and responsive to community needs.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organization, promoting its mission and values within the community.
  • Travel to or reside in designated tribal communities to deliver programs and services.
  • Adapt to different community settings and maintain flexibility in scheduling and program delivery.
