The Collection Strategies Specialist will be an integral member of the Collection Development and Strategies Department, responsible for managing collection maintenance projects, supervising student employees, and assisting with interlibrary loan services. This role focuses on improving collection accessibility, supporting strategic selection and acquisition of diverse and equitable learning materials, and ensuring the library's collections meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, library science, or related field.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience working in an academic or public library setting.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems independently and on a team.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and a commitment to a user-centered approach to library spaces.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Capable of managing competing demands and flexibly responding to challenges.
  • Knowledge of library collection maintenance principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of student employee supervision and training practices.
  • Commitment to accessibility, diversity, and equitable collection practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of professional level experience supervising student employees.
  • Two (2) years of professional level experience in interlibrary loan program.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience working with collections or within Library spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Manages collection maintenance projects with a focus on improving the stacks for accessibility.
  • Supervises student employees, including hiring, training, and conducting annual reviews.
  • Assists with interlibrary loan services, processing borrowing, lending, and document delivery requests.
  • Repairs books and other library materials.
  • Assists with book displays, including creating themes, selecting titles, and designing signage.
  • Performs shelving, inventorying, shifting, and shelf-reading.
  • Processes interlibrary loan requests.
  • Ensures timely check-in of print periodicals and standing orders.
  • Conducts print periodical usage studies to aid in renewal decisions.
  • Sends and receives items from the bindery and updates records.
  • Serves as the in-house expert for repairing the library’s general collection.
  • Collaborates with Collection Development Librarians to determine withdrawal, repair, or replacement of damaged materials.
  • Selects and maintains repair supplies.
  • Manages the Faculty Authors’ Display, including labeling books and updating records.
  • Collaborates to establish and maintain various collections, such as Graphic Novels, Faculty Authors’, and the Game collection.
  • Contributes to internal institutional knowledge by maintaining, updating, creating, and saving documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
