About The Position

This is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in the construction and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. The position primarily works with water and wastewater infrastructure in the public right-of-way and easements. This is a manual labor position relating to Utilities Field Operations. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Field Supervisor or designee.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication along with strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to use electronic devices such as iPads, laptops, and phones to input data on work orders.
  • Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks and to follow instructions.
  • Ability to maintain polite disposition at all times with the public and other crew members.
  • Ability to work alone or with limited supervision and direction or in a team environment.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions.
  • Ability to perform assigned work professionally and in an organized manner.
  • Ability to work extended hours in the event of an emergency or critical incident.
  • High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required.
  • Must possess a valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s License prior to date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.
  • Must complete the Water Distribution Sacramento Correspondence course within two (2) years of hire date for work in the Water Distribution system.
  • Must obtain a FWPCOA Wastewater Collections Technician certification within two (2) years of hire date for work in the Wastewater Collection system.
  • Must obtain Class A CDL w/ Tanker endorsement within two (2) years of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of water service lines and water mains.
  • Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of gravity sewer laterals, gravity sewer mains and sewer force mains.
  • Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of the reclaimed water distribution system.
  • Performs tagging of out-of-compliance meter and backflow devices.
  • Reports unsafe field conditions to the senior field tech or supervisor.
  • Reports safety hazards or needed repairs of equipment to the senior field tech or supervisor.
  • Helps prepare daily reports and keeps various records.
  • Performs daily vehicle checks.
  • Cleans truck and performs minor maintenance, as needed.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of the ISO Certification Policy.
  • Utilizes electronic devices to update Lucidy CMMS work orders and for data collection.
  • Responds promptly to emergencies or critical incidents while following procedures to mitigate risks.
  • Routinely uses and operates various hand and power tools, as well as gas powered equipment to perform excavation and repairs.
  • Performs general housekeeping duties as required.
  • Follow oral and written directions to complete tasks designated by his/her direct supervisor.
  • All other job duties as assigned.
