About The Position

The Cold End Technician role involves two main functions: Glass Handler and Closer. As a Glass Handler, you will pack glass in the correct orientation onto racks for customer shipment, maintain an accurate count of glass pieces, and check for defects. As a Closer, you will verify customer specifications and accurately close racks according to closing codes and instructions, preparing the glass for shipment. Both roles require maintaining a clean work area, communicating with supervisors, and notifying relevant personnel of any issues.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
• Tape measure reading and basic math skills needed
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English
• Must be 18 years of age to apply
• Able to safely lift at least 50 pounds
• Pass a pre-employment physical ability test, background, and drug screen

Responsibilities

• Pack glass in proper orientation onto racks for customer shipment.
• Maintain a count of the number of lites (pieces of glass) placed on the rack.
• Use a punch to poke holes through cardboard for multiple tier packing.
• Check for defects or bad cuts in the glass.
• Communicate with the cutter lab and supervisor as needed.
• Sweep and clean the work area.
• Notify supervisor and others as appropriate if there is a problem.
• Verify customer specs.
• Close racks accurately and completely by following closing codes and looking through flipcharts or FG Web for instructions.
• Attach gates when needed to prepare glass for shipment to customers.
• Assist with repack.
• Promptly respond to the line when called.
• Restock closing supplies.
• Keep equipment and tools organized.
• Initial tickets.
• Empty cardboard and trash containers.
• Notify closing inspector, supervisor, and others as appropriate if there is a problem.
