About The Position

This role is responsible for the direct implementation of cognitive behavioral programming for clients. Essential functions include learning new tasks, remembering processes, maintaining focus, completing tasks independently, making timely decisions within workflows, and meeting speed/productivity quotas. The specialist will conduct scheduled cognitive skills programming, run groups of eight to twelve clients, and adhere to the integrity of the curriculum being taught. They will review client information and program requirements, prepare accurate statistical reports, evaluate client progress, and communicate status updates. The role also involves maintaining client files, educating clients on cognitive errors supporting criminal lifestyles, managing time effectively, and utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques to counter destructive thinking patterns. Coordination with caseworkers and other agencies, documentation of services, and training of current employees on cognitive skills information are also key responsibilities. The specialist will ensure clients have schedules and attend programming, or inform appropriate staff of missing schedules, and may travel to different work sites as directed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Behavioral Science or related field required.
  • Must have the cognitive skills needed to complete tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for decision making, problem solving, and comprehending.
  • Has the ability to perform under stress and/or in emergencies.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license, reliable transportation, and a driving record that does not preclude the employee from being covered by Agency liability insurance, if required by facility supervisor.
  • Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Cognitive Theory and Social Learning Theory preferred.
  • Prior experience in corrections or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learns new tasks, remembers processes, maintains focus, completes tasks independently, makes timely decisions in the contexts of workflows, and is able to complete tasks that have a speed and/or productivity quota.
  • Conducts cognitive skills programming as scheduled.
  • Runs groups of eight to twelve clients.
  • Adheres to program integrity of curriculum being taught.
  • Reviews all available information about clients and their program requirements.
  • Initiates/completes required statistical reports in an accurate manner and submits them to supervisor.
  • Evaluates clients' overall progress and goal achievement and communicates the status to clients on a regular basis as required by the program.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate, organized, and updated individual files and records individual progress notes and outside correspondence according to Agency specifications.
  • Provides clients with education about the cognitive errors that support a criminal lifestyle.
  • Manages time and organizes work demands appropriately. Meets deadlines established by supervisor.
  • Educates and assists clients in utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques to counter act the use of destructive thinking patterns in accordance with cognitive behavioral strategies.
  • Coordinates services with Caseworkers, other staff, and other agencies in the community and maintains accurate documentation of same.
  • Educates/trains current employees (formal and documented training) within the Agency about pertinent cognitive skills information, etc.
  • Ensures clients have schedules and are notified to attend their programming or informs the appropriate staff of missing client schedules.
  • Travels to different work sites if needed or directed by supervisor.
