About The Position

Bancroft is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cognitive Remediation Specialist to support individuals with neurological impairments, developmental disabilities, and brain injuries in achieving their highest level of independence and cognitive functioning. This position develops and implements cognitive remediation programs, provides direct treatment services, conducts assessments, and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to create individualized rehabilitation plans. The Cognitive Remediation Specialist plays a critical role in enhancing learning, problem-solving, memory, attention, and daily living skills while promoting a person-centered approach to care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work, Recreation Therapy, Sociology, Human Services, or a related field required.
  • Must meet certification criteria established by the Society for Cognitive Rehabilitation.
  • Must obtain ACBIS (Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists) certification within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, brain injuries, or neurological impairments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized and group cognitive remediation programs in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Provide direct cognitive remediation treatment services in residential and day program settings.
  • Assist in the development of treatment goals, objectives, and rehabilitation plans based on individual assessments and identified needs.
  • Conduct individual and group sessions focused on improving cognitive, functional, and adaptive skills.
  • Monitor progress, evaluate outcomes, and modify treatment plans as necessary to support rehabilitation goals.
  • Recommend adaptive strategies, environmental accommodations, and functional supports to enhance learning and independence.
  • Train and educate persons served, caregivers, and staff on cognitive remediation techniques, treatment plans, and adaptive equipment.
  • Participate in assessments, screenings, and evaluations to determine rehabilitation needs and appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation, including progress notes, treatment summaries, and reports.
  • Collaborate with families, guardians, residential staff, clinicians, and other team members to ensure coordinated service delivery.
  • Participate in team meetings, admissions assessments, family conferences, and Neurobehavioral Rounds.
  • Provide crisis intervention support using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, licensing regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Stay current with advancements in cognitive remediation practices through continuing education, professional development, and industry research.
