About The Position

The Inpatient Coding (Facility) Specialist III supports accurate, complete, and consistent coding practices that produce quality healthcare data. The specialist codes complex inpatient cases using the appropriate ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and mandated ICD-10-PCS procedure codes, while striving for optimal reimbursement. The role may also provide support in other coding areas as needed.

This is a full-time, 100% remote position scheduled Monday through Friday, with work taking place within the 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST timeframe.

Requirements

• High school graduate, GED, or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
• One of the following certifications: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician), or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator), from the American Health Information Management Association.
• Knowledge of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT classification systems, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to and participate in frequent policy and procedure changes in response to internal and external healthcare data requirements.
• Ability to maintain accuracy, work independently, and resolve problems effectively.

Nice To Haves

• Inpatient facility coding experience in an acute care hospital.
• At least 2 years of medical record coding experience and knowledge of DRG assignment and reimbursement regulations acquired in an acute care environment.
• Experience coding through an encoder and proficiency with Windows-based applications.
• Experience coding pediatric cases.
