About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a Coding Specialist for a remote position. This role involves reviewing, accurately assigning, and abstracting professional and outpatient facility diagnostic and procedural codes to encounters. The individual must organize and prioritize coding work to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital targets. This position also recognizes documentation clarification opportunities and initiates coding tasks. Requirements

  • Cardiology E/M Coding experience required
  • Relevant Work Experience: 3 years
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Certified Coding Associate - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Certified Coding Specialist - Physician - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Certified Outpatient Coder - American Academy of Professional Coders
  • Certified Professional Coder - Outpatient - American Academy of Professional Coders
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and prioritizes coding work to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital targets.
  • Assigns the most appropriate diagnosis and procedures to reflect the utilization of resources during the patient encounter.
  • Recognizes documentation clarification opportunities to ensure it supports all codes and designation assignments. Initiates coding queries or tasks.
  • Reviews, accurately assigns, and abstracts professional and outpatient facility diagnostic and procedural codes to encounters.
