About The Position

Join Our Team as a Coding Specialist III - HB Facility Coder Are you an experienced medical coding professional with a strong eye for detail, sound judgment, and a passion for accuracy and compliance? We’re looking for a compassionate, dedicated, and knowledgeable Coding Specialist III - HB Facility Coder to join our team and serve as a trusted resource for professional coding and billing. In this role, you’ll be responsible for accurately and timely coding professional charges by abstracting information from the electronic medical record. You’ll also provide educational feedback to providers, support billing teams with outstanding claims and charge issues, identify opportunities for process improvement, and help promote coding and billing compliance across the organization. As a senior member of the team, you’ll also mentor and train appropriate staff, support a collaborative team environment, and serve as a role model through strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound decision-making.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five years of professional billing and coding experience required.
  • Strong professional coding background with demonstrated knowledge of coding and billing requirements.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), CCS, or RHIT certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience providing coding education, reviewing audits, or mentoring/training staff preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and timely code professional charges by abstracting information from the electronic medical record.
  • Ensure coding practices support compliant and timely billing in accordance with payer and regulatory requirements.
  • Review audited coding batches and provide educational feedback to providers to promote coding and billing compliance.
  • Keep the Supervisor informed of daily progress, coding issues, and concerns related to Facility coding.
  • Obtain and clarify information needed by billing staff to follow up on outstanding claims and resolve charge-recording issues.
  • Demonstrate advanced analytical skills to identify trends, evaluate workflows, and recommend opportunities for process improvement.
  • Identify, investigate, and appropriately escalate coding, billing, and operational issues or concerns to leadership.
  • Mentor and train appropriate staff while promoting a positive, collaborative, and team-focused work environment.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource and role model for the department.
  • Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, sound decision-making, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of the role.
