About The Position

This role is for an experienced Cardiology Pro Fee Coder who will play an important role in ensuring accurate, compliant coding for physician cardiology services. The coder will review physician documentation, assign and sequence ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, and ensure cardiology services are accurately captured for billing and reimbursement. The role involves working with a variety of cardiology procedures and services while applying current coding guidelines and payer requirements. This is an opportunity for a coder who enjoys cardiology, detailed chart review, and working independently in a professional fee coding environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of recent professional fee coding experience
  • Recent experience coding cardiology services strongly preferred
  • Active AHIMA or AAPC credential, such as: CPC, CCS-P, CCS, CCA, RHIT, RHIA, COC or related coding credential
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding
  • Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology
  • Ability to consistently meet a 95% quality standard while maintaining productivity expectations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Successful completion of the required pre-employment coding assessment

Responsibilities

  • Code a variety of cardiology services, which may include: Cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography, Electrophysiology (EP) procedures, Pacemaker and ICD procedures, Echocardiograms and cardiovascular diagnostic testing, Stress testing, Interventional cardiology procedures, Cardiology consultations, Evaluation and Management (E/M) services-Inpatient and Clinical.
  • Select appropriate CPT codes, ICD-10, modifiers, and E/M levels based on provider documentation.
  • Review medical records to ensure diagnoses and procedures are fully supported by the clinical documentation.
  • Apply current ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS, NCCI, E/M, Modifiers, Medicare, and payer-specific coding guidelines.
  • Identify documentation or coding issues and communicate with providers or client teams when clarification is needed.
  • Ensure coding is accurate, compliant, and completed within established productivity and quality standards.
  • Maintain a high level of coding accuracy while meeting production expectations.
  • Stay current on changes to coding guidelines, regulations, and cardiology coding practices.
  • Participate in team meetings, training, continuing education, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Protect patient and provider information and maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
