Responsible for the education, training and auditing of employees in the Coding department. This role involves developing training plans for new hires and contract staff, conducting inpatient and outpatient coding, and ensuring adherence to coding guidelines and policies. The position also requires staying updated on new government rules, regulations, and annual code updates, researching new coding updates, and reviewing CMS mandates. The Coding Educator & Auditor will organize education offerings, manage training logistics, and work with management to identify continuing education units (CEUs). They will also collaborate with Coding Leadership to develop efficient processes, cross-train staff, and contribute to coding education materials. This role serves as a resource for other departments and physicians regarding coding and reimbursement, and may also perform coding duties when volumes exceed department standards. Additionally, the role involves auditing inpatient or outpatient coders, developing audit spreadsheets, and creating individualized education plans based on audit results. The Outpatient Education Coordinator/Auditor will resolve APC Edits and work with the Business Office on denials to ensure correct billing and timely account payment.
