About The Position

Datavant is a healthcare data collaboration platform focused on making health data secure, accessible, and actionable. The company is seeking experienced, credentialed outpatient coders to review and code hospital records. The role is fully remote and offers a flexible schedule. The posting describes two areas of coding expertise: Emergency Department coding and Outpatient Same-Day Surgery/Observation (OP SDS/OBS) coding. ED work calls for experience with facility E/M leveling, injections and infusions, and bedside procedures. OP SDS/OBS work involves coding same-day surgery and observation cases across a broad range of specialties, and familiarity with revenue-code assignment for surgeries. Both specialties require CCS credentials and experience with EPIC and 3M/Solventum or 3M, as applicable. Coders review medical records, assign and sequence diagnosis and procedure codes, select discharge dispositions, and abstract coded data for hospital reporting. They communicate documentation improvement opportunities and coding issues, maintain required accuracy and productivity standards, track continuing education, and comply with professional ethics and HIM policies. The role requires professional communication with coworkers, management, and hospital staff, along with strong judgment, organization, teamwork, and customer service. The position is not eligible for employment sponsorship. Pay is estimated at $20–$35 per hour, with the actual range depending on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other role requirements.
