About The Position

This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy and compliance of hospital inpatient coding. The Coding Auditor will be responsible for developing and implementing coding strategies, adhering to state and federal compliance regulations, developing policies and procedures, standardizing coding operations, analyzing coding quality, and performing chart reviews. The position involves evaluating prebill hospital inpatient coding compliance edits to ensure adherence to payer reimbursement methodologies and official coding guidelines. The auditor will also summarize quality review results, participate in team meetings to discuss findings, act as a subject matter expert, and provide trend analysis to the Coding Educator for educational purposes. Notifying coding leadership of trends for education and feedback to coders, physicians, and departments is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED - Required
  • 5 years Coding Experience relevant to auditing specialty with CCS - Required
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Required

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Health Information Management - Preferred
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) - Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with coding leadership and peers in the development and/or implementation of audit/monitoring plans.
  • Evaluates prebill hospital inpatient coding compliance edits to ensure compliance with payer reimbursement methodologies and official coding guidelines.
  • Summarizes quality review results for Coding Managers, Supervisors, Coding Educator, and coding staff.
  • Participates in team meetings with coding personnel when necessary to discuss coding findings.
  • Act as a subject matter expert regarding payer reimbursement methodologies and official coding guidelines.
  • Provides details specific to audit trends to the Coding Educator for preparation of ongoing education.
  • Notifies coding leadership of trends and topics for education and feedback to coders, physicians, and departments.
