About The Position

The Coder position at OSF HealthCare involves assigning accurate ICD-CM/PCS & CPT/HCPCS codes to all pertinent diagnoses and procedures, focusing on introductory and moderate level complexity coding assignments. This role requires compliance with coding guidelines and abstracting all necessary information for statistical and reimbursement purposes. The Coder will work closely with revenue cycle team members to ensure appropriate billing and reimbursement. Candidates located in Illinois or Michigan with professional coding experience are encouraged to apply. Training details will be discussed during the interview. This is a full remote position, but near an OSF Location.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/ GED.
  • Completion of AAPC or AHIMA approved coding certificate program with one of the following certifications: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, OR RHIA/RHIT-eligible and obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.
  • Completed Medical Coding courses focused on ICD-CM/PCS and CPT coding guidelines.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, disease processes, medical records and hospital procedures.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted by Basic keyboard and software application skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate via written and verbal means.
  • Able to provide information to supervisors, co-workers and physicians by telephone, written, e-mail or in person.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year professional or hospital coding experience.
