About The Position

This position involves collecting and analyzing medical record data with considerable initiative and judgment. The Associate works under the supervision of the Director of Medical Record Department, performing duties in an area where procedures are standardized but require frequent independent decisions. The role also contributes to maintaining a quality improvement system to ensure effective utilization of hospital facilities and services, and assists in promoting high quality care through the review of clinical practices based on pre-established criteria. This promotes proper utilization of hospital resources for efficient, cost-effective, high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Health Information Management or similar coding course.
  • Credentialed as a Certified Coding Specialist by American Health Information Management Association.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience coding health records.
  • Capable of following verbal or written instructions.
  • Practice diplomacy in dealing with the Medical Staff.
  • Familiar with medical terminology.
  • Able to follow coding guidelines.
  • Ability to identify proper diagnostic and procedural phases utilized by healthcare provider.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the human body to obtain proper ICD and CPT codes.
  • Abide by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Able to communicate verbally and in written format with the Medical Staff, review organizations, administration and others as required.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet productivity standards consistently.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Certified by American Health Information Management Association as CCS, or CCSP, RHIT, RHIA.
