About The Position

Responsible for ensuring all surgical and hospital claims processed through EMR and Centricity are correct and compliant. Ensure proper documentation is on file. Ensure all physicians in assigned area of responsibility are complaint with dictations, and documentation with patient’s treatment. To ensure all assigned charts are coded and billed out daily. Assigns medical codes for general surgery procedures for medical records and billing purposes. As part of your duties, you look at medical records and information and assign codes for each procedure and diagnosis for each patient. Ensure that all billable charges are entered into billing system. Work with site to ensure that all required documentation is obtained for review process. Escalate any trend and documentation issues to manager for discussion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience with working in a healthcare field and in a clinical setting or business office.
  • Excellent verbal and communications skills are essential.
  • Education to stay current with all CPT and ICD9/ ICD10 yearly updates is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of five (3) years of medical coding experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years of ICD & Oncology CPT Coding in designated area of expertise/oncology is preferred.
  • Procedure entry with experience in operative report extraction and coding guidelines are preferred.
  • AAPC Coding Certification (CPC or ROCC coding certification) including in the designated area of oncology coding is strongly preferred.
  • Individuals who do not hold this certification must obtain within two (1) year of being assigned to this position.
  • Centricity experience preferred.
  • Experience in designated oncology EMR is preferred.
