About The Position

BH Shared Services (a UHS company) is currently seeking an experienced Certified Coder to join our established team in the Central Appeals Office. The Coder-Cert position provides high-quality, timely coding of diagnoses and procedures for inpatient and outpatient accounts and performs coding of diagnoses supporting multiple facilities under the CCO. The role follows CCO policies and procedures, keeps track of all coding as required, and ensures productivity is maintained. A successful candidate must have the ability to review the medical record to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes, along with knowledge of all coding guidelines and UHS coding policies. Thorough knowledge of behavioral health coding and medical terminology is required. The candidate will also communicate with UHS BH Hospital HIM department staff regarding the need for additional documentation, physician queries, or other related coding questions. This is a fully remote position.

Requirements

  • High School/GED required
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CPC Certification required
  • 1-3 years related experience required
  • Graduation from a certified coding program required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as MS4 and 3M.

Nice To Haves

  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Abstracts and enters ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS diagnosis codes in MS4 using the 3M Encoder; follows outlined coding productivity; complies with corporate standards for ethical coding; composes and sends physician queries when documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear; logs and follows up on queries daily until complete or past seven days; keeps the Lead Coder or UHS Corporate Sr. HIM Manager updated on coding issues or trends; and uploads coding and 3M coding summaries to the EMR as required.
  • Reviews coding logs daily, updates and completes assigned items, abstracts medical records for missing documentation and queries, emails the facility HIM Director daily regarding uncoded accounts, logs information on daily coding logs, and follows up each day until coding can be completed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of the medical record.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date with coding trainings and credentials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
