About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Development Center Division of the Development Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is under the general supervision of the Chief Plans Examiner. The Code Technician is primarily responsible for performing work of a technical nature and utilizes specialized skills relating to construction, engineering, and/or land use.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the permitting process, common construction practices, and/or building code review.
  • Knowledge of relevant building, zoning, engineering, and land use codes and regulations.
  • Skill in working efficiently and accurately while multi-tasking under intense workloads.
  • Skill in reading and assessing development plans for compliance with minimum building, engineering, and/or zoning regulations.
  • Skill in discussing technical details of plans with contractors, staff and the public.
  • Skill in writing clear and concise narrative statements.
  • Skill in interpretation of statutes, codes, and ordinances pertaining to site development.
  • Skill in making logical inferences.
  • Skill in assessing important information.
  • Skill in determining and advising on necessary and feasible plan revisions to effect compliance with codes and ordinances.
  • Skill in determining and locating appropriate information sources.
  • Skill in reading maps.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting legal descriptions.
  • Skill in relating to the public, land developers, legal representatives and other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzing and processing applications and plans related to construction and land utilization to assess compliance with appropriate City codes, ordinances, and policies.
  • Collecting data, information, and relevant statutes related to ongoing projects or as requested by other staff members or the public.
  • Transmitting acquired data and information in both oral and written format.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
