About The Position

This is technical work enforcing Land Development Regulations, Code of Ordinances, Building Codes and Standard Housing Codes. May inspect house and properties, contacting waste management on garbage and trash pickups. Work is performed under general supervision of the Code Enforcement Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by college credits from an accredited U.S. College with courses that include building, construction or inspection techniques.
  • One (1) year experience working with building codes, municipal codes or as a Code Enforcement Officer preferred.
  • Must be Florida Association of Code Enforcement (F.A.C.E.) certified or obtain F.A.C.E. certification within 12 months from date of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License, with a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of municipal codes, housing codes, enforcement and inspection techniques.
  • Knowledge of the City's policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Skill in policy interpretation and application.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively utilize personal computer and office software such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data accurately using the City's mainframe system or other required application.
  • Ability to work independently and to adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized and complex assignments and problems utilizing knowledge acquired through prior education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce applicable sections of the Land Development Regulations, Housing Codes and Code of Ordinances through inspection and review activities.
  • Testify at Code Enforcement Board Hearings and follows up on Code Enforcement Orders.
  • Issue notice of violations on public nuisance, housing code standards, zoning and building codes and abandoned vehicles.
  • Patrol assigned area and investigate complaints called in by the public.
  • Interact with public for assistance in interpretation of specific sections of the Land Development Regulations, Housing Codes and Code of Ordinances.
  • Discuss with public, code violations.
  • Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-wide basis.
