About The Position

Under general supervision, performs administrative and investigative work enforcing State and local codes. Is responsible for inspecting, investigating and prosecuting violations of the Town of Davie Code and other codes and/or ordinances applicable to property within the Town. Reports to Code Compliance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or Equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of college-level course work.
  • Possess at least two (2) years experience dealing with the public in any of the following fields: Code Enforcement, Planning, Building Inspection or Construction, Investigation, or other closely related field.
  • Possess F.A.C.E. (Florida Association of Code Enforcement) Level I Certification, or must obtain certification within twelve (12) months from date of appointment.
  • Possession of a valid Class "E" Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be physically able to operate a vehicle.
  • Must not have drivers license suspensions within five (5) years of submission of an application unless it was insurance related.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No driver's license suspensions within five (5) years of the date of this application.
  • No steroid usage within three (3) years of the date of this application.
  • No visible tattoos above the collarbone on the neck, face, head, scalp or on the hands.
  • No use of any illegal controlled substances within three years of the date of this application with the exception of marijuana.
  • No use of marijuana or cannabis in any form within one year of the date of this application.
  • No use of any tobacco products within six (6) months of the date of this application.
  • Not have been dishonorably discharged from the military.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols the Town for signs of code violations; responds to referrals from Town Administration, or other departments as well as the public.
  • Investigates complaints of code violations and initiates investigations of code violations observed; conducts follow up inspections where code violations have previously occurred.
  • Maintains records and correspondence, including letters of violation and affidavits; performs research to prepare cases against violations.
  • Delivers or coordinates delivery of violation notices; contacts and coordinates witnesses appearances.
  • Implements established policies, directives and objectives of the department and the Town through code compliance procedures and techniques.
  • Performs other related work as required.
