Requirements
- Associate's Degree Health Information Management
- 3 years Coding Required
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Required OR
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Required OR
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) - American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's Degree Health Information Management
- 5 years Coding Preferred
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Preferred
Responsibilities
- Abstract data from multiple resources to be used for medical billing and statistical purposes.
- Collaborate with regional clinical leadership to respond to changes in clinical practice.
- Identify and monitor opportunities for performance improvement of services.
- Inform clinical staff of documentation deficiencies and provide coaching to avoid future deficiencies.
- Review medical record documentation in order to appropriately assign diagnoses and procedure codes.
- Identify and resolve coding/billing issues developing them into process improvement project, as appropriate.
- Provide billing/coding education to departments, as necessary.
- Serve as a coding resource for CBO, HIM, and departments, to ensure we are compliant in our coding and billing functions.
