About The Position

CAI is seeking a remote Cobol Developer on a contract basis to build a new pooled-account structure inside a running z/OS core without disturbing existing balances. The role involves analyzing and extending existing core-account processing, designing and coding the new account type, expanding batch cycles and controls, preparing and executing testing, and supporting implementation and early production runs. The developer will also create program documentation, data-flow notes, and runbook updates for the support team.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of Enterprise COBOL development experience in a z/OS environment, including batch and online.
  • At least 5 years of experience with NaturalOne, including developing, debugging, and deploying.
  • Experience with Natural programs, subprograms, and maps.
  • At least 3 years of JCL development and production support experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing or supporting financial/accounting systems, including double-entry posting, balance/accrual maintenance, value dating, reconciliation, and month-end closeouts in a regulated environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with VSAM and Adabas, including file design and performance behavior.
  • At least 3 years of experience tracing undocumented logic through copybooks, call chains, and job streams.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to perform sedentary work, mostly sitting or stationary, with occasional movement around the office to attend meetings.
  • Ability to perform repetitive computer tasks using a mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cash management, account pooling, sweeps, or treasury applications.
  • Experience with CA-7 scheduling and batch operations.
  • Experience with REXX, Python, or Java.
  • Degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze current account master, posting, and balance-maintenance programs to determine where composite reservoir accounts must be recognized, and document findings.
  • Design and code the new account type end to end, including master file and table structures, account opening and closing, participant linkage, sweep and reverse-sweep logic, allocation and interest apportionment, and closing balance derivation.
  • Modify batch COBOL programs and JCL and extend nightly and month-end cycles to incorporate the new processing without exceeding agreed batch-window limits.
  • Add new CRAs to audit trails, exception reporting, and reconciliation controls, collaborating with accounting stakeholders to define required evidence.
  • Produce test data and unit and regression test packs, perform parallel-run comparisons against current production output, and investigate differences until explained.
  • Support implementation, conversion of in-scope existing accounts, and early-life production runs, including on-call cover during the first cycles.
  • Prepare program documentation, data-flow notes, and runbook updates for the support team.
