About The Position

Itero Group is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer to support a large-scale, mission-critical healthcare claims processing environment. This role is ideal for an experienced COBOL developer who enjoys working on complex enterprise applications while contributing to ongoing modernization efforts. The selected candidate will support and enhance an established mainframe application, troubleshoot production issues, develop new functionality, and collaborate with cross-functional teams as legacy systems integrate with modern cloud-based solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to work on long-term, high-impact projects within a stable and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of mainframe application development experience.
  • Strong experience programming in COBOL.
  • Experience developing CICS online applications.
  • Experience working within large-scale batch processing environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable participating in technical discussions and collaborating across distributed teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with healthcare or insurance claims processing systems.
  • Experience supporting large enterprise transaction processing applications.
  • Familiarity with legacy green-screen applications.
  • Exposure to application modernization or cloud transformation initiatives.
  • Experience with healthcare payer platforms such as TriZetto Facets is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise COBOL applications.
  • Develop and support online transaction processing using CICS.
  • Build, modify, and maintain large-scale batch processing applications.
  • Implement software enhancements, defect corrections, and performance improvements.
  • Analyze and resolve production issues in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support ongoing application maintenance and system stability.
  • Participate in production support and on-call activities as required.
  • Work closely with business analysts, architects, developers, QA teams, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Support system integration efforts as legacy applications evolve alongside modern platforms.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and development planning.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts during virtual meetings and collaborative sessions.
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable, and efficient code.
  • Follow established development standards and change management processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and modernization efforts.
  • Maintain technical documentation and support knowledge sharing across the team.
