About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with monitoring, supporting, and training Brooder House Worker Team Members engaged in attending to birds in brooding. Other duties may be included. The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
  • If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to move items such as partitions, boxes of chicks, etc.; tools such as shovel/pitchfork; may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds such as feed or shavings.
  • Regularly required to stand the majority of the shift on multiple floor surfaces (i.e. concrete floors, shavings, etc.); walk, sit; use hands to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance, stoop or bend repeatedly, climbing (ladder usage); talk and hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Adjusts controls to regulate temperature and humidity of the poultry house.
  • Enter data in FPS, such as chick placements and mortality; creates 7 and 14-day mortality report.
  • Vaccinates and isolates birds according to vaccination schedule and biosecurity policy and examines birds for signs of illness and treats them according to instructions.
  • Calculates pen sizes based on number of birds to be received and adjusts to provide adequate feeder, waterer and brooder space for all birds. Also monitors and assists with placing pen partitions according to calculations, segregating birds according to linage of source.
  • Monitors and assists with feeding and watering birds according to schedules; walks floors daily, picks up and disposes of mortality.
  • Monitors and assists with cleaning and disinfecting waterers, pens and performs routine housekeeping duties; repairs pens and equipment (feeders, waterers, lights, fans, etc.).
  • Monitors and assists with recording information according to instructions such as genealogy, bird weight, medications, feed intake and mortality.
  • Lead positions must currently have and consistently maintain 4 attendance points or less.
  • Inspects birds to determine quality and progress by weighing birds weekly; sanitation of breakroom, boot rooms, equipment and vehicles; properly euthanize weak, ill or injured birds in accordance with company policy; assists manager with scheduling for absent team members.
