About The Position

This position is responsible for leading a group of team members in the collection of feed conversion and Sorting of birds. Scales, computer tablets, and other data collection equipment is routinely used and maintained by the BHFCR lead. Chickens are routinely caught, loaded and hauled from one house to another by the BHFCR lead and crew team members. Chickens are euthanized, and graded, by this lead position. Preparation of daily tasks for the crew is required. This position is responsible for organizing and completing clean-up and disinfecting procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
  • If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months.
  • Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.
  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Cobb/Tyson Foods.
  • Applicants must reside in the United States to be considered for an interview.
  • Must use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds, required to use wheeled dollies to lift and/or move up to 500 pounds of feed, supplies, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand a majority of their shift on concrete; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires use of hand tools such as scalpels, knives, scoops, broom, squeegee; equipment such as computer tablet, barcode scanners, utility carts, scales; safe operation of vehicle to and from work area.
  • Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, cut resistant gloves, and rubber boots are required.
  • Ear plugs, arm protectors, and NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators may be worn as desired.
  • Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company.
  • No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.
  • Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.).
  • Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

  • Previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain and collect feed conversion data by performing the following duties: catch chickens from scratch area, load and haul chickens from one house to another, and place chickens into cages.
  • Use a barcode scanner to record chicken IDs and note cage numbers.
  • Weigh chickens and feed using a scale and record data using a computer tablet.
  • Prepare, setup, and breakdown BFC chicken houses; this includes spreading shavings, scooping chicken feed into feeders, dumping spent feed, removing spent shavings from houses, and other duties.
  • Sort birds in the brood house and Growout house.
  • Monitor flock environment.
  • Collect laboratory samples to determine the health status of chickens and their environments.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment between work areas, flushing water lines by turning flush valve and record water usage, provide daily care for chickens.
  • Dispose of mortality per animal welfare standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Practice effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Lead positions must currently have and consistently maintain 4 attendance points or less.
  • Operate a high pressure and regular water hose to wash equipment, maintain vehicle by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris, maintains a clean and organized work area.
