About The Position

The Coating Lead Production Supervisor is accountable for ensuring safety and environmental leadership on their shift. This role involves providing training, conducting audits, and implementing corrective measures to maintain a safe working environment. The supervisor will train, develop, and follow up with shift supervisors to ensure adherence to safe working practices and policies. They will investigate incidents, gather evidence, and develop standards to prevent recurrence. This position directs and leads shift supervision to achieve production schedules and optimize line performance by monitoring KPIs in real-time. Administrative duties include maintaining correct manning levels and UKG records. The role requires collaboration with other supervisors and managers to meet plant production goals, including managing production/warehouse team movements and optimizing maintenance. Support is provided to process engineers for process improvement and performance enhancement, including participation in continuous improvement and planning meetings. The supervisor will support and develop shift supervision in using SOPs and structured methods for troubleshooting and process optimization, providing feedback to process engineers to ensure SOPs reflect actual needs and eliminate waste. They will ensure shift teams are trained on diagnostic tools and defect identification for timely quality issue resolution. This role champions housekeeping, orderliness, and cleanliness through 5S activities, check sheets, and rounds, and coordinates "Quick Kaizen" ideas. The supervisor ensures uniform enforcement of plant safety and work rules, and supports shift supervision in applying appropriate training, creating expectations, documentation, and training materials. Collaboration with process engineers will occur to develop training plans for operators and supervisors, focusing on equipment troubleshooting and intervention techniques. The role may involve covering shift supervisory vacancies. All actions must comply with the collective bargaining agreement, maintaining effective relationships with Union Representatives and providing training on CBA requirements. Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct is expected. Other managerial duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience successfully supervising people in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or technically related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and organize objectives and targets to meet deadlines.
  • Computer and software proficiency – including strong knowledge of MS Office systems.
  • Excellent communication & human relation skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to effectively interact with all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Problem-Solving Skills (Six Sigma).
  • 3 years of experience training salaried personnel on equipment unfamiliar to yourself.
  • 3 years of experience in float glass manufacturing.
  • Six Sigma or other Lean Manufacturing Certification – Greenbelt or above.
  • Experience with ACVD processes, the equipment, and how to troubleshoot this equipment.
